In the ever-evolving landscape of technology, collaboration and open innovation stand as the cornerstones of progress. This is why Red Hat is proud to announce its participation as a founding member of the AI Alliance — an international consortium dedicated to advancing safe, responsible artificial intelligence (AI) rooted in open innovation. You can read more about the AI Alliance in the announcement that was issued today.

A shared vision for open innovation

At Red Hat, we have always believed in the power of open collaboration to drive innovation, and that belief extends to AI. Joining forces with industry giants, leading academic institutions and forward-thinking innovators to create an open, healthy AI community naturally aligns with our commitment to open innovation, as well as our belief that we, as an industry, will make more progress by working together. The AI Alliance is not just a coalition; it's a shared vision and mission for shaping the future of AI responsibly and ethically.

Red Hat's involvement in the AI Alliance is more than just a collaboration, though. The AI Alliance is focused on accelerating and disseminating open innovation across the AI technology landscape. As part of the AI Alliance, Red Hat aims to contribute to the development of open technologies across software, models and tools, and are excited about the opportunity we have to shape the future of AI around open innovation and open source technologies across the hybrid cloud — from the datacenter to the edge.

Just as open source has been the driving influence behind the datacenter, cloud and edge platforms, so too it is the driving force in AI. And just as Red Hat has helped shape enterprise technology through its contributions to the open source community — spanning hundreds of open source projects, thousands of developers and millions of man-hours per year — we are ready to take a leadership role in shaping the future of AI through open innovation and our contributions in open source communities. As part of the AI Alliance, Red Hat’s upstream communities — including Open Data Hub — will serve as an integration platform for models coming through the alliance, and our AI platform offerings, including Red Hat OpenShift and Red Hat OpenShift AI, will be available to alliance members in support of these activities.

The transformative power of AI

Artificial intelligence has become a transformative force, introducing new possibilities almost daily. Foundation models and generative AI can revolutionize how we work, live, learn and interact with one another. Red Hat recognizes the pivotal role that open innovation plays in harnessing the full potential of AI, and we are excited to contribute to this collective endeavor.

The strength of collective potential

The emergence of generative AI has demonstrated the art of the possible. As a founding member of the AI Alliance, Red Hat acknowledges the collective potential that arises from a diverse and open ecosystem. This alliance brings together a multitude of institutions, from small companies and academia to science agencies and large enterprises. Red Hat believes that the opportunity to create technology that benefits society at scale can only be done in the open. Our belief is that a broad range of perspectives is indispensable for shaping the evolution of AI in ways that truly reflect the needs and complexities of our societies. Open innovation can democratize access to technology and research, which we believe not only results in more progress, faster, but it can also help to build the talent and pathways necessary for sustainable benefits.

Advocating for responsible AI

The AI Alliance is not just about building cutting-edge technologies; it is a commitment to advocating for a future where innovation knows no bounds. Red Hat is dedicated to contributing to the creation of an open ecosystem that ensures responsible AI. This includes upholding principles such as scientific rigor, trust, ethics, resiliency and responsibility as AI advances into new frontiers.

An industry-wide call to action

As we embark on this exciting journey with the AI Alliance, we extend a call to action to the entire tech community. Together, we can build, support and advocate for open innovation in AI. Red Hat is excited about the potential that lies ahead and is committed to playing a key role in shaping the future of AI for the benefit of people and society everywhere.

In the spirit of collaboration and innovation, let us pave the way for a future where the transformative power of AI is harnessed responsibly, ethically and with boundless possibilities.
